Taking Your Entertainment On The Go

entertainment to go

Summer is winding down, and school is just about to start for most people. Many families are scheduling last-minute trips to make the most of these last few weeks of Summer. If your family is headed out of town, you may be looking for ways to keep the kids entertained during a flight or a long road trip. Many parents will rely on tablets or other devices to help kids pass the time, however, those might not always work when there is no data or internet signal.

Luckily there are several ways you can download your movies and shows to your devices so you can keep watching during that boring car ride through the middle of nowhere! While Hulu isn’t on this list yet, rumor has it that Hulu will be releasing this feature sometime between now and next year.

Netflix

Although it is not available on every show in the Netflix library, the service does let you download a good portion of its content. As you are browsing through the app on your device you will see the download icon next to the content. Once you have downloaded every episode of Parks and Rec known to man, you can access the downloads from the downloads menu icon at the bottom of the screen.

Plex

Ever wish you had your own personal Netflix? With all the movies and videos you have purchased over the years. Well, Plex offers you exactly that. You have to have your own equipment, but it’s pretty easy to set up. You can set it up through a desktop machine that is always on, or through a NAS (Network Attached Storage) device. Once you have it set up, you can use software to rip the DVD’s you own and save them to your Plex server. After you rip all the discs, which can include those obscure discs your kids have been watching since they were infants, you can use the Plex app to save the videos to your device. Finally, Baby Einstein can join you wherever you go!

YouTube

Many people don’t realize that YouTube actually offers the ability to save some videos for offline viewing. Not all videos are available to download for free, but many can be downloaded with a YouTube Premium subscription. You can access all of your downloaded videos from your YouTube profile in the app and tapping on the downloaded videos.

Digital Library

When you purchase a DVD or Blu-Ray these days, they usually come with a digital code to add to your digital library. When you have these movies saved to your account, you can download the movie to the device you are using to access your account for offline viewing. The same is true for Google Play Movies and iTunes. You can save the movies you own to view when you are offline.

Amazon Prime Videos

Amazon offers you the ability to save some select videos offline if you have a Prime account as well.

As you can see there are several options available to you to keep your entertainment with you, even when you are driving through the middle of nowhere.
