Parenting in the Digital Age is a challenge for our generation of parents. There’s no doubt that technology has become ingrained in our society and we must accept this. Mobile devices are an extension of us now. Children are introduced to technology an earlier ages. I constantly remind myself to make sure my kids are not abusing their time spent on their technology and try to enjoy the world that’s actually around them. I do believe parents are busier today, kids as a result of this are way busier too and their mobile devices is in a constant state of stimulation. Some examples:
- Notifications from games (time to play again!)
- Text message notifications
- The need to see if you have notifications
- The fear of missing out
As parents, we need to continue to keep that connection with our children and make sure there’s human interaction without technology. I relate to Cindy in the following article as she’s trying to make sure communication stays high in her household. It’s easy to get buried in the glowing screen in your hand and lose touch with your environment.
